Once, the big, bright Sun felt very small. He tucked himself behind a fluffy, grey cloud. "The sky is so big," he whispered. "Does anyone even notice I am here?"

From the edges of the sky, his two sisters saw him hiding. One was Morning Glow, who painted the world in soft pinks. The other was Sunset Glow, who brushed the clouds with fiery orange.

Morning Glow floated over to the big cloud. "Brother," she whispered, "why are you hiding? The little birds are waiting. They cannot sing their morning song without your gentle light to wake them."

"And the sleepy flowers in the meadow," she continued, "are keeping their petals closed up tight. They are waiting for your warm kiss to help them open and say good morning."

Then, Sunset Glow drifted closer from the other side. Her voice was warm and calm. "And when the day is done," she said, "the children look to the window, waiting for the beautiful colors you paint for them before they go to sleep."

"You splash the sky with orange and purple," Sunset Glow smiled. "It's the world's most beautiful lullaby. It tells everyone it is time to be cozy and rest for the night."

"You see?" said Morning Glow. "You wake up the world." "And you put it to sleep," added Sunset Glow. "You are the beginning and the end of every lovely day."

The Sun listened to his sisters. He peeked out a little more from behind his cloud. Could it be true? Did the birds and flowers and children really wait for him? A tiny, warm ray of light escaped from the cloud.

Slowly, the Sun pushed the cloud away. He let his warm, gentle light spread across the sky. He wasn't just one small light. He was the Sun! He made the whole world bright.
